⚠️ Cat food facts
Does this sound familiar to you?

"Make sure your cat's food is AAFCO-approved!"

So many vets STILL say this!

Well, harsh cat food fact #1: AAFCO does not approve pet food

They don't test pet food either!

So what do they do?AAFCO creates rules and guidelines for pet food manufacturers to follow when they create and label their products.

IF their state and other governing bodies adopt the guidelines into law.

What does that mean for us?Well, that brings me to harsh cat food fact #2: it's up to us, the cat parents, to find the best quality food for our cats.

You can't rely on someone else (that includes me) to tell you what to feed your cat.

We have to learn how to actually read cat food labels.

Even the FDA says there is a lot on the pet food label. But we have to understand what it all actually means.

Or, more importantly, what doesn't have any meaning.

Because the FDA also says: "do not be swayed by the many marketing gimmicks or eye-catching claims".

For example...

Do you think cat food products labeled "premium" are better quality?

According to AAFCO's rules - "premium" pet food has no special requirements.

This is exactly what the FDA means by marketing gimmicks and eye-catching claims.
